The Western Australian government has appointed Christian Rasmussen as chief information officer of the state health system’s shared service centre, Health Support Services (HSS).

The agency is responsible for providing a range of support services to the public health sector, including information and communication technology services, procurement, employee and payroll services, and financial services.

Rasmussen was most recently CIO of Lotterywest. Prior to that, he was CIO/chief operating officer advisor at BDO, and CIO at Curtin University. Rasmussen has also worked for Monadelphous, Fortescue, and the University of WA.

HSS chief executive officer Robert Toms said Rasmussen would develop ICT priorities in line with WA Health’s digital strategy, among other roles, according to iTnews.

“Christian will lead the transformation and modernisation of ICT at HSS and across the WA health system,” he said.

“He will oversee the delivery of modern, secure, integrated and user-friendly ICT platforms for public health care services in Western Australia.”

Rasmussen commenced in the role on Friday, seven months after former CIO Holger Kaufmann stepped down from the position. Executive director of transformation and strategy Jonathan Smith has been acting CIO since then.
