Below is the official list of the new ministry. Announcing his new ministry, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull also slipped in some machinery of government changes.
For senior public servants, one the most important figures in this new government will be Senator Arthur Sinodinos, who picks up the title of Cabinet Secretary and also moves the role into Cabinet itself.
Notable new ministries include the Minister for Cities and the Built Environment, which will be run by Jamie Briggs within Greg Hunt’s Environment portfolio.
As previously announced, water has moved from Environment to Agriculture.
The Arts portfolio also moved, back into the Communications portfolio.
Innovation has been explicitly placed in a portfolio title, in Industry, Innovation and Science, and gains an Assistant Minister for Innovation in the young Wyatt Roy.
Turnbull’s first ministry also changed the titles for parliamentary secretaries and assistant ministers. Parliamentary secretaries have been renamed assistant ministers. Previously assistant ministries are now full ministries in title, albeit still sitting under another ministry portfolio.
Six key figures of the Abbott government have been dumped entirely from the ministry: Joe Hockey, Eric Abetz, Kevin Andrews, Bruce Bilson, Ian Macfarlane, Michael Ronaldson.
