Podcast: Mike Pezzullo discusses the influences that shaped him

One of Canberra’s most powerful departmental heads, the deep-thinking Mike Pezzullo, has joined the Lowy Interpreter‘s new podcast series, dubbed Canberra Conversations.

Here the Institute’s director of digital and visiting fellow at ANU’s Strategic and Defence Studies Centre, Sam Roggeveen, speaks to Mike Pezzullo, the secretary of the Department of Immigration and Border Protection.

“Canberra has a large community of foreign-policy professionals — public servants, political staffers, diplomats, journalists, academics, students — and this series is designed to provide some insights into the personalities who play a leading role in that community,” Roggeveen writes.

“I will to talk to Canberra’s national-security and foreign-policy leaders about their lives, their influences, and how they do their jobs.”

The public is likely to hear and see more of Pezzullo in the near future; he is strongly favoured to take up the role of secretary for the powerful new Home Affairs Department, which is likely to be built by effectively adding functions to the DIBP.
