IP Australia is seeking a highly experienced person who is innovative, committed to excellence, flexible and has a strong record of achievement in leading people and managing resources to achieve quality results.
As Director General, you will set the strategic direction for IP Australia and lead its executive team. You will be responsible for achieving the agency’s objectives. You will have the capacity to effectively lead change and embrace innovation and new technology. You will be able to confidently represent IP Australia in a range of domestic and international fora.
IP Australia administers Australia’s intellectual property (IP) rights system – specifically patents, trademarks, designs and plant breeder’s rights. The agency also undertakes activities to educate and promote an awareness of IP; provides IP policy advice to government; develops legislation to support the IP system; and contributes to bilateral and multilateral negotiations to improve IP protection internationally. IP Australia’s work facilitates innovation, trade, investment and international competitiveness.
IP Australia has an active program to embrace innovation and new technology to provide staff with the best tools, consistently improve the customer experience and provide value-added tools and services to our stakeholders.
The agency is currently undertaking significant cultural and organisational reforms to modernise work practices, support effective delivery of organisational outcomes and increase staff attraction and engagement.
IP Australia is committed to a program of continuous improvement through a number of initiatives including modernising and transforming our technology base and implementing a program of policy and legislative reform as a result of the recent Productivity Commission review of the IP system.
Qualifications in science/engineering and/or law and knowledge of the IP system would be helpful, but are secondary to broader leadership and management requirements. To be eligible for employment in the APS and with IP Australia, applicants must be Australian citizens.
