New Senior Executive Services promotions in the Australian government. Women outnumbered men in this week’s top promotions.

Treasury

Obviously there’s been a huge shake up at the federal Department of Treasury, which has caused a bit of a political upset. But there were more promotions and parachutes than just those that made the national news.

Sam Reinhardt is on a three-year posting to London as Treasury’s senior representative with the diplomatic rank of Minister-Counsellor. But when Reinhardt returns, she will be leaving the portfolio according to the latest filings, for a Band 2 division head role in the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science.

“In senior roles it is not always a bad thing being a women; it’s getting to senior roles as a women that can be the … difficult bit,” Reinhardt said during her posting.

“As a female economist, it is not uncommon to sit in a room with 90 per cent men. That is very unfortunate for gender equity, but for me it can mean that I don’t have to work as hard to be remembered: I’m in the 10 per cent.’’

Brenton Goldsworthy is Treasury’s senior representative in Tokyo and has also been promoted to Band 2 while remaining in the portfolio.

Angelia Grant is has also been promoted to Band 2 in the Treasury portfolio as head of the Macroeconomic Conditions Division.
