Nous Group appoints its first chief economist among three new principals

By Nous Group

Thursday September 13, 2018

Management consulting firm Nous Group is pleased to announce the appointment of chief economist Jenny Gordon.

Jenny joins Nous from her most recent role as principal adviser research, at the Productivity Commission. She has also held senior roles within the Centre for International Economics and worked as an academic at both Harvard University and Wellesley College in the United States. Acting both as a principal consultant and chief economist, Jenny will lead the application and development of the firm’s economics capability, tools and analysis.

Nous also welcomed two other new principals to its national team in August:

Simon Smith joins Nous from his role as secretary (CEO) at the NSW Department of Industry where he has led significant reforms in the areas of vocational education, job creation and resource regulation. Prior to that he was CEO of the NSW Office of Finance and Services, and deputy secretary, economic policy at the NSW Department of Premier and Cabinet. Simon’s deep public sector expertise and focus on innovation, complex reform and leadership will further strengthen Nous’ public policy practice.

Sudipto Sakar joins Nous from Telstra Consumer and Small Business, where he has been the general manager of strategy. Prior to that he was a principal consultant at The Boston Consulting Group. As part of Nous’ Digital and Design practice, Sudipto brings over 18 years’ experience working with public and private sector organisations in senior corporate and consulting roles. His areas of expertise include business and market strategy, transformation through technology, and driving performance through data, analytics and insights.

Nous managing director Tim Orton says: “We are thrilled to have these three leading experts join our team along with other recent joiners Anthony Bubalo (former deputy director, Lowy Institute), Alison Larkins (former deputy secretary, Commonwealth Government) and Emma White (former director-general, WA Government).

As chief economist, Jenny will leverage and build Nous’ capability in economic analysis. Simon’s extensive policy experience and Sudipto’s expertise in technology-driven transformation both strengthen our ability to deliver on our aspiration of influencing positive outcomes for Australian citizens in partnership with our government clients.”
