The Director, Governmental Relations and Policy (GRP) will take a lead on this through the provision of strategic direction and innovative leadership in driving the department’s governmental relations function. Reporting to the Executive Director, Strategic Policy and External Relations, the successful incumbent will be a pragmatic systems thinker, responsible for supporting the planning and execution of considered policy reform, including leading reforms where required. The Director, GRP will provide high level leadership to a team of multi-disciplinary staff and will establish a culture of performance, professionalism and continuous improvement across the directorate. A collaborative leadership approach as well as significant stakeholder management capability and experience is an essential requirement of this role.
The Department for Education is a diverse and complex organisation, and an understanding of the political and policy landscape within an education context will be highly regarded.

Relevant qualifications in public policy, law, economics or other relevant discipline.
The successful applicant is required to gain a Department of Human Services (DHS) Working With Children Check (WWCC) prior to being employed which is required to be renewed every five years before expiry. A current DHS child-related employment screening will be recognised as a WWCC until it expires. The incumbent will be required to undertake Responding to Abuse & Neglect (RAN) full day/online training course every three years. For all other special conditions please refer to the Role Description.
