The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) is an independent statutory agency which produces authoritative and accessible information and statistics to inform and support better policy and service delivery decisions, leading to better health and wellbeing for all Australians. The Institute has national and international recognition and a proven track record in providing high quality, independent advice. The Institute has strong collaborative arrangements with all Australian Governments and excellent working relationships with researchers, professional and industry groups and consumers.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of AIHW is a statutory appointment made by Government and is accountable to the AIHW Board for the governance, leadership, business management and overall performance of this complex information management agency. As CEO you will set the future direction of the organisation including further developing the AIHW’s standing and presence within Australia as the key provider of statistical and information services to the health and welfare sectors. This will include implementation of the Institute’s strategic directions, oversight of its financial performance and enhancement of collaborative and enduring partnerships with stakeholders. You will also be required to keep abreast of key issues and emerging trends relating to health and welfare and to represent the AIHW in a range of public forums.
To be a strong contender for this important appointment, you will need to be an outstanding leader and manager with an impressive record of achievement, preferably gained at a senior level in a substantial health, welfare or research related organisation. You will be an innovative and strategic thinker with a strong outcomes orientation and will have first class stakeholder management and representational capabilities. In addition you will have the professional and technical skills necessary to ensure that the AIHW maintains its reputation for excellence.
