Following the appointment of the first Minister for Hydrogen in the world, the Department of Energy and Public Works is now seeking to appoint a Deputy Director-General, Hydrogen (DDGH) to lead the development of Hydrogen as a key element of Queensland’s energy transformation and long-term economic future.


This DDGH will be key in the development and implementation of whole-of-government strategic policy, in fostering a facilitative regulatory framework to encourage investment and economic opportunities and growth around hydrogen.


Key responsibilities include:

• Provide expert policy advice and analysis;

• Lead coordination and work collaboratively across government to identify and address barriers to the growth of hydrogen in Queensland to maximise development and use of hydrogen;

• Lead the strategic development and delivery of integrated hydrogen policies, strategies, and procurement capabilities;

• Foster the uptake of Queensland’s innovation capabilities and technologies in energy;

• Lead a community engagement strategy;

• Lead the department’s support for the Hydrogen Taskforce and the Hydrogen Sub-Committee on the Ministerial Energy Council; and

• Develop and implement strategies, programs, regulatory frameworks, and initiatives to underpin long-term growth.


We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative executive with a demonstrated ability to combine policy, regulatory and commercial thinking to foster the growth of hydrogen production, supply chains and export as a part of Queensland’s energy transformation.


You will be confident in developing effective stakeholder relationships and partnerships across government and the private sector. The ability to lead the development and implementation of strategies, programs and regulatory frameworks is required.
