Data for Policy – on-line Masterclass

Understanding how to use data delivers better policy.

On 4 June 2020 The Stretton Institute at the University of Adelaide is presenting a half day on-line Masterclass which will provide an opportunity to canvass your policy challenges and determine what data and data opportunities might be available for your purposes.

The Masterclass will be delivered by David Kalisch, former Head of the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

At the end of this Masterclass participants will:

  • Better understand how data can be used to help respond to a wide range of public policy challenges;
  • Be familiar with the range of data that is available for policy makers, the new data and analytical techniques now available, and key features of effective, quality use of data

The Masterclass does not assume any statistical skill, nor will statistical techniques be part of the class. This is a class about policy

David Kalisch has been at the forefront of Australian and international developments with data for the past decade, most recently as Australian Statistician (Head of the Australian Bureau of Statistics) from 2014 to 2019, and prior to that as Director of the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare from  2010 to 2014.  Prior to this he had long Commonwealth line agency experience of using data.
