The Government is seeking an outstanding, inspirational leader and experienced legal professional to guide the establishment activities of the National Sports Tribunal, the successful execution of its operations once established, and the delivery of reliable, high quality arbitral decisions and other dispute resolution services – often in circumstances of significant public and media scrutiny.

As CEO, you will make a significant contribution to shaping the National Sports Tribunal, ensuring operational excellence and successfully positioning it to be the forum of choice for resolution of sport-related disputes in Australia. You will be responsible to government and will work closely with the Department of Health to ensure the National Sports Tribunal’s strategic planning, operating and service models, office infrastructure, staffing, and business and support systems are in place to commence operations within the required timeframes.

A key component of the role will be applying extensive experience in dispute resolution to finalise the procedural and administrative arrangements prior to the expected launch in 2020. You will also need to engage with a broad range of national and international stakeholders to provide education and enhance awareness of the operations of the National Sports Tribunal to secure its place in the Australian sporting landscape.

To be a strong contender for this role, you will need to demonstrate exceptional leadership and vision with knowledge and skills in dispute resolution practices and procedures.

You will have proven experience in managing complex operations, high-level people management, stakeholder engagement, with strong communication, representational and negotiation skills. You will also be forward thinking, self-motivated and engender a high standard of professional and personal integrity.

You must develop and maintain a broad understanding of contemporary and emerging issues of relevance to integrity and conduct in the sports sector. A strong understanding of the operations and responsibilities of a public sector tribunal and legal qualifications are desirable.

This will be a two-year fixed term appointment.
