The Role:

As Deputy Director-General, Environmental Policy and Programs, you will lead a team of 225 across the branches of Environment Policy & Planning, Conservation Policy & Planning, Climate Change & Sustainable Futures, the Office of Resource Recovery, and the Office of the Great Barrier Reef. In doing so, you will lead engagement with the key stakeholders across a broad range of policy areas and significant investment programs.

As both the leader of Environmental Policy and Programs and a key member of the departmental leadership team, you must have an exceptional ability to:

  • Influence cultural change towards a focus on policy implementation and program delivery
  • Rigorously test science and evidence based decision making
    Foster end-to-end whole-of-agency  and cross-sector thinking
  • Develop the capability of leadership at the next level

You will oversee the re-investment of the Waste Levy and Land Restoration Fund into department programs and engage with partners in multiple sectors to create a circular economy, exploring options such as green bonds and carbon credits. Whilst expertise in these areas is not essential, the ability to engage with private sector representatives is important.

You will also be highly attuned to the stakeholder experience and influence consultation to ensure improved outcomes from all perspectives.

The Organisation:

The Department of Environment and Science is a diverse organisation, bringing together environment, heritage protection, national parks, science and arts functions to achieve positive outcomes for Queensland. We are focussed on innovation, collaboration, scientific excellence, and positioning ourselves at the leading edge in the use of emerging technologies.
